Norman Spencer (Harrison Ford), a renowned university research scientist, and his wife, Claire (Michelle Pfeiffer), a retired concert cellist, are a seemingly happily married couple. At first she thinks it is her neighbor's wraith which is haunting her, but Mary then turns up alive. However, a mysterious woman's ghost keeps haunting Claire, and Norman suspects that his frightened wife experiences hallucinations as a consequence of an accident when Claire's car smashed into a tree a year ago.
