A mentally challenged, middle-aged man named Chance (Peter Sellers) has spent all his life working as a gardener in the townhouse of a wealthy old man in Washington. When the owner dies, Chance is kicked out of the house. Knowing of the outside world only from maid Louise (Ruth Attaway) and television, he makes his first uncertain steps in the unfamiliar world and unexpectedly finds himself struck by a limousine owned by an influential and wealthy industrialist, Ben Rand (Melvyn Douglas). His wife Eve (Shirley MacLaine) invites Chance to their estate to convalesce and have dinner. Well-dressed and neat, the former gardener is mistaken for a man of means and his simple and serious utterances about gardening, which sound like metaphoric economic and political predictions, impress Ben so favorably that he decides to take Chance under his wing. He is soon introduced to US President (Jack Warden) and eventually rises to a powerful position in Washington society. |

The action takes place in the USA in the 1930s. Grace (Nicole Kidman), a beatiful woman on the run from gangsters, arrives in the small Rocky Mountain town of Dogville. Town philosopher Tom Edison (Paul Bettany) takes her in and convinces the townsfolk to hide her. In exchange for shelter, Grace has to work for the townspeople all hours: she teaches math to the local kids, takes care of the blind old man, helps the apple farmer (Stellan Skarsgård) and the shopkeeper (Lauren Bacall). Eventually, the townspeople, egoistic and ruthless, begin demanding more and more from poor Grace. Tired of working double shifts, Grace decides to leave the town, but the escape fails, and she has to pass through a black ordeal. As a slave she is forced to toil from dawn to dusk, and raped by every man in Dogville night after night. Finally, Tom calls up Grace’s father (James Caan) to rescue his daughter from her inexorable torturers. |

The prime minister's older sister Karen slowly grows aware of her husband Harry's flirtation with an office worker named Mia. Karen's friend Daniel is a recently widowed writer whose 11-year-old son asks for love advice about a girl he has a crush on. Meanwhile, Jamie is another writer who leaves his girlfriend after catching her cheating on him and travels to France to write a novel where he pursues a possible romance with his non-English speaking Portuguese maid Aurelia. Also, Harry's American secretary Sarah questions a romance she pursues with the office hunk Karl, but her personal family problems get in the way. Other secondary characters involve a photographer who pursues his best friend's new wife Juliet; a pair of movie stand-ins, named John and Judy, who grow closer after their simulated love scenes; a libidinous chum who wants to travel to Wisconsin, USA to score with women; and a burned-out former rock star named Billy Mack who is the main connection between all stories involved. |

After an airplane trip, a young woman asks Susie's husband, Sam, to keep a doll for her to avoid spoiling the surprise of her daughter's gift. But the real reason is to avoid her partner, Harry Roat, whom she hopes to cheat of the drugs hidden in the doll. Harry discovers her treachery, murders her and leaves the body in Susie's apartment, where he has tracked Sam and the doll. He concocts an elaborate plan, involving Mike and Carlino, small-time hoods, to get Susie, who recently lost her sight in a fire, to reveal the doll's hiding place. They lure Sam away and take advantage of Susie's blindness, posing as an old friend, a police detective, and a father-son pair of eccentrics. Susie eventually catches on and, with the help of her young neighbor, Gloria, shows everyone that she is indeed "a world-class blind lady." |

The action takes place in Japan in the 1870s. Guaranteed to make you want to stop bird-watching and put the old bird feeder to the ax—at least for a while. The whole thing starts when Melanie Daniels is crossing a lake and is nipped by a gull. Gradually, incidence of bird damage to humans by pecking increases. While visiting the Earth at Night, a group of alien botanists is discovered and disturbed by an approaching human task force. Because of the more than hasty take-off, one of the visitors is left behind. The little alien finds himself all alone on a very strange planet. The wish to go home again is strong in E.T., and after being able to communicate with Elliot and the others, E.T. starts building an improvised device to send a message home for his folks to come and pick him up. But before long, E.T. gets seriously sick, and because of his special connection to Elliot, the young boy suffers, too. The situation gets critical when the task force finally intervenes. By then, all help may already be too late, and there's no alien spaceship in sight. |

Adventurers manage creature capture, and bringing him to New York City for display, where Kong escapes and runs amok, finally climbing the Empire State Building.
