Kate Wells (Famke Janssen) is a magazine journalist who is given an impossible assignment to write an article on love and sex by the end of the day. Kate has no choice but to reminisce about her past romances. Kate experienced her first love at school. But it was unhappy love ending in break-up with classmate Bobby Norton. She lost her virginity to her high-school French teacher. With the years, the number of her sexual partners was a bit shocking: Kate had had 13 lovers when she met artist Adam Levy (Jon Favreau). However, the longer people live together, the more they irritate each other. Her miscarriage and regular domestic quarrels made them split up. Cookie's Fortune unfolds over an eventful Easter weekend in the small town of Holly Springs, Mississippi. The town residents are peaceful, kind folk--with the exception of Camille Dixon (Glenn Close)--a pushy theatre director with an incredibly shy younger sister, Cora (Julianne Moore), whose estranged daughter Emma (Liv Tyler) has just returned to town. On the heels of her latest play, Camille is shocked to discover that her Aunt Jewel Mae "Cookie" Orcutt (Patricia Neal) has committed suicide. Terrified at the thought of how this will tarnish the family name, she eats the suicide note to make it look like a burglary. This set-up leads the police to one main suspect, Willis Richland (Charles S. Dutton), who also happens to be Cookie's best friend. Although the rest of the town is convinced Willis didn't commit the crime, an outside investigator (Courtney B. Vance) isn't so sure. As Easter Sunday and opening night of the play arrive, the truth comes out, revealing more secrets than anyone could have possibly imagined. Director Altman tells his story at a leisurely pace, beautifully recreating the eccentricities of small town life in this sweet-natured tale. |

For New York's most powerful and toughest gangster Paul Vitti (Robert De Niro) killing a man is like having a cup of tea. But the relentless mobster has been having panic attacks recently. It's so fortunate for him that one day Dr. Ben Sobel's car collides with his car. The 19th installment follows MI-6 Commander James Bond to a swiss bank in Bilbao, Spain where upon retrieval of three million pounds (British dollars) a siege takes place. James barely escapes the local police, leaving them questioning the mysterious shooting that occurred minutes ago. The next day, at the MI-6 Headquarters in London, Bond first greet Miss Moneypenny and gives her a nice souvenir: a cigar. Q then calls him in first to meet Sir Robert King then to report on the mission. It was then that the three million pounds was in fact, a bomb which destroys the Headquarters and kills King. Bond's only suspect, who happens to be the woman from the swiss bank blows herself up form a hot-air balloon. He then meets Sir King's daughter, Electra, who now own her father's oil company. But Bond's real mission has a new enemy named Renard a man who feels no pain whatsoever after a bullet was put into his head, who along with Electra and their henchmen plan to nuke Europe and everything in it's path. Now with the help of Christmas Jones, a research scientist, James must foil the terrorists plan before the entire Easternmost countries are wiped out forever. The world is not enough for disasters. Arab courtier Ahmad Ibn Fadlan is sent to the barbaric north as an emissary, because he fell in love with the wrong woman. In AD 922, this usually meant goodbye forever. A team of research scientists in the off-shore laboratory Aquatica are running experiments on sharks, trying to find a cure for Alzheimer's disease. Unbeknownst to her colleagues, Dr. Susan McAlester (Saffron Burrows), whose father suffered from this fatal illness, breaks ethical codes, genetically re-engineering the DNA of mako sharks to increase the brain size and obtain more cancer-battling enzymes. Unfortunately, the experiment also makes the sharks larger, stronger, more intelligent and aggressive. When financial backer Russell Franklin (Samuel L.Jackson), who is skeptical about the tests, threatens to close down the project, the team performs a demonstration experiment removing brain tissue from the largest shark. The test is successful, but then things go wayward: the shark subject unexpectedly awakes and tears Jim Whitlock's (Stellan Skarsgеrd) arm off. The scientists call a rescue helicopter but it crashes into the station during a tropical storm. The newly smart killer-sharks decide to make the most of the situation and sink the station in order to escape into the sea.

After losing their payload the ramshackle, sinking, ocean-going salvage tug "Sea Star" takes refuge in the eye of a typhoon in an attempt to make repairs. Whilst trying to find help the tug, captained by Robert Everton ('Donald Sutherland' (qv)), discovers a Russian science vessel adrift in the eye. The crew believes their troubles are over and they are set for life when the captain informs them of the value of salvaging this apparent ghost-ship. However, the navigator Kit Foster ('Jamie Lee Curtis' (qv)) and the chief engineer Steve Baker ('William Baldwin' (qv)) are not convinced that it will be that easy. Once power is restored to the ship strange things start to happen and the crew mysteriously disappear one by one. It isn't until the discovery of the last remaining Russian crew member, the chief science officer Nadia Vinogradiya ('Joanna Pacula' (qv)), that the crew realise the enemy ranged against them isn't the Russians but something far more malevolent... |
