Even a telephone kiosk can become a deadly trap when you have something to hide in connection with your dubious reputation, if you have such. A New-Yorker, journalist Steven Shepard (Colin Farrell) who used to lie to everybody from his boss to his wife and lover, picks up a receiver at a phone booth and becomes the hostage of a maniac sniper who targets him with a laser sight. This guy draws Steve out demanding a forced confession in all his lies, a confession which can cost him his job and relations with his wife. In other hand, denial will cost him his life as well as if he'd hang up the phone. Meanwhile, police forces which gathered around the booth as a passing pedestrian is injured by a maniacal shooter, consider Steve himself as a maniac, being unaware of sniper existence. For liars to notice: one should never pick up a phone ringing in a telephone booth... |

A group of British college students who are close friends embark on a night of intense partying including alcohol and drugs, and while under the influence, intent on a bit of fun, try to establish a link with the spirit world using a homemade Ouija board. However, fun is the last thing on their minds when the Ouija board spells out the words "All Die", and they give up on the board before closing the link to the spirit world and, unknown to them, unleash something evil into their world, and it isn't long before one of them is murdered by an unseen force. Enlisted into the Marine Corps are several "Windtalkers" who are deployed to frontline areas in the Pacific, to use their language as an impossible-to-crack secret code. A drawback, however, is that the U.S. military soon puts forth a directive that the Windtalkers must never be captured alive by the enemy, so additional Marines are assigned to make certian that this directive is carried out to the letter. |

This is a remake of the Japan version of "The Ring", which still is a cornerstone of the contemporary horror. A journalist woman named Rachel Keller (Naomi Watts) gets to know that her niece and the friends of the girl have died instantly and inexplicably when they checked a room in a distant motel, during their vacation. Rachel has a son Aidan (David Dorfman), she figures out that a mysterious video tape is involved in this story; these who are dead now, have watched it. Among other things, she resembles some ominous strangeness browsing photos of her dead niece's friends: their faces are uncommonly changed. And having seen the tape which initially seemed an amateurish film peculiar with an unskillful cutting, she realizes that something evil and nightmarishly unavoidable has begun looming over her and her son. Soon after watching the tape containing these various, inexplicably sinister frames she hears her phone ringing, and picks up a receiver only to hear how many days remained for her to live. Now her life is a race against the time, she is to know something about the tape and the horrifying story that lays hidden behind the dust of the past decades, spotting some things around her, the things she have seen watching the cursed cutting. A masterpiece of Gore Verbinski as a director and Naomi Watts as an actress is a prominent remake between the ones of the same genre. |
