Based on a novel by Dick King-Smith, author of The Sheep Pig (from which Babe was adapted), the touching and often spectacular The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep ingeniously presumes to explain the truth behind "Nessie," i.e., the Loch Ness Monster. The story, told in present day to a couple of American tourists by a kindly gentleman (Brian Cox) in a pub, begins with a lonely boy, Angus (Alex Etel), pining for his father, who is serving in the Royal Navy during World War II. Angus, along with his sister (Priyanka Xi) and mother (Emily Watson), live on an estate that has been billeted by soldiers in the Scottish Highlands, near Loch Ness. The troop’s commander (David Morissey) has an eye for mom, suspicions about a mysterious handyman, Lewis (Ben Chaplin), who is also a war hero, and an absurd contention that the Highlands are the real frontline in the war against Germany.
Into this intriguing drama comes a completely different element, a fantastical creature of Celtic mythology that befriends Angus and is, in fact, the sea-beast who will eventually be known as the Loch Ness Monster. Trying to hide the dinosaur-like fellow, nicknamed Crusoe, Angus enlists Lewis to transfer it to the lake, where boy and serpent have extraordinary adventures together until human stupidity threatens Crusoe’s existence. A true family film, there is a lot for adults to like about the grownup story in The Water Horse. Meanwhile, the wistful relationship between Angus and Crusoe—each of whom helps the other move past obstacles toward their individual destinies—will leave children feeling both happy and melancholy in the best possible sense. Directed by Jay Russell (My Dog Skip), The Water Horse is the best of a mini-genre of films about or inspired by old Nessie. |

In an animated fairy tale world, a young girl meets and falls in love with the handsome prince of her dreams. News of this romance upsets the prince's mother, the evil queen, who uses her black magic to send the girl hurtling out of the animated world into the one place in the universe where there is no true love: modern day Manhattan. This movie is an interpretation of Garrison Keillor's radio show of the same name. After 32 years, Garrison Keillor's radio variety show is coming to an end. Some establishment had bought the radio station this program stapled, so this very broadcast will be the last... Keillor and Altman worked hard at creating a distinct element of authenticity. The entire film (except opening and closing scenes) was shot in St. Paul's Fitzgerald Theater, home to the show since 1978. "Prairie Home Companion" band members and regular guests also appear in the film. |

A grizzly bear named Boog, domesticated by a park ranger, Beth, helps deer friend Elliot escape from the mullet-sporting hunter, Shaw. When the Elliot decides to return the favor to help Boog escape from Beth he finds that Boog is very happy with his domesticated home. After a misunderstanding, Beth is convinced that Boog is reverting to his wild nature and releases him in the woods just as hunting season begins. Boog has no idea how to survive outside of his garage home with his beloved Beth. Elliott and Boog develop a strong bond not only between themselves but also with the wild animals and attempt to drive the hunters out of the forest. |

The teenage boy holds the fate of humanity in his hands.

FBI is looking for a way to get inside Fuller's home to confirm or disprove Turner is "crossing the gender line" again and begins to play a role of a septuagenarian housekeeper. "Big Momma" gets the job, but while trying to figure out the truth about Fuller's possible criminal connections, Malcolm also finds himself developing a close relationship with the suspect's wife and kids. As always, "she" once again turns the house upside down. Along the way, "Big Momma" also helps bring the splintering Fuller family back together and, in turn, Malcolm develops a newfound approach to his own family problems, which includes stepson Trent and expectant wife Sherrie. |

Bob Munro is the dad of a dysfunctional family. He hires an RV to take the family on vacation. However Bob is NOT the best RV steering wheel operator in the neighborhood and the hilarity is added on by the fact that the brakes are about as useful as a chocolate fireguard. Bob first realizes it when the RV rolls (not literally) backwards into a line of shopping carts. Also Bob's job is in danger if he doesn't go to a very important meeting. Before you can say "COME BACK! COME BACK!," things go gloriously, hilariously, Munro-annoyingly wrong due to the lack of brakes, Bob's job, toilet waste not cleared out from the last rental and more hilarious stuff. |
