A kind inventor is almost finished piecing together his latest creation when fate prevents him from completing his most important project. Edward may seem dangerous, with scissors instead of hands, but when a compassionate Avon lady comes calling, it's clear that things are going to be changing for Edward who has been alone in the large empty mansion. Tobacco industry lobbyist Nick Naylor has a seemingly impossible task: promoting cigarette smoking in a time when the health hazards of the activity have become too plain to ignore. Nick, however, revels in his job, using argument and twisted logic to place, as often as not, his clients in the positions of either altruistic do-gooders or victims. Nick's son Joey needs to understand and respect his dad's philosophy, and Nick works hard to respond to that need without compromising his lack of values. When a beautiful news reporter betrays Nick's sexually-achieved trust, his world seems in danger of collapsing. But there's always one more coffin nail in Nick's pack. |

For many years the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant, along with the town dwellers, has got rid of its toxic waste and garbage by discharging them into the lake. After the sinking of the barge the band "Green Day" (Billie Joe Armstrong, Tre Cool and Mike Dirnt) was performing on, Lisa Simpson (Yeardley Smith) convinces the locals to clean up the polluted lake. But when her muddle-headed father Homer (Dan Castellaneta) dumps an overflowing silo of "Pig Crap" in it, he involuntarily causes ecological catastrophe. Induced by the treacherous adviser from the EPA, Russ Cargill (Albert Brooks), President Arnold Schwarzenegger (Harry Shearer) orders to put a giant glass dome over Springfield. The Simpsons, however, manage to escape with a whole skin through a sinkhole in their baby Maggie's sandbox and they flee to Alaska. Having heard of the president’s villainous plan to destroy Springfield, Homer’s wife Marge (Julie Kavner) and his kids try to persuade him to return to the town but all to no avail. Therefore Marge, along with the kids, leaves Homer. But a meeting with a medicine woman (Tress MacNeille) drastically changes his outlook and Homer comes to the conclusion that he must defy the president, once known as Terminator, so as to save the home town, which is on a razor's edge, and reunite with his family.

A mentally challenged, middle-aged man named Chance (Peter Sellers) has spent all his life working as a gardener in the townhouse of a wealthy old man in Washington. When the owner dies, Chance is kicked out of the house. Knowing of the outside world only from maid Louise (Ruth Attaway) and television, he makes his first uncertain steps in the unfamiliar world and unexpectedly finds himself struck by a limousine owned by an influential and wealthy industrialist, Ben Rand (Melvyn Douglas). His wife Eve (Shirley MacLaine) invites Chance to their estate to convalesce and have dinner. Well-dressed and neat, the former gardener is mistaken for a man of means and his simple and serious utterances about gardening, which sound like metaphoric economic and political predictions, impress Ben so favorably that he decides to take Chance under his wing. He is soon introduced to US President (Jack Warden) and eventually rises to a powerful position in Washington society. |

At a Hollywood party Harry crosses the path with his unrequited old flame, Harmony Faith Lane (Michelle Monaghan), an aspirant actress. Harmony mistakes Harry for an actual detective and implores him to investigate her younger sister’s death. Teamed up with Gay Perry, Harry is out to solve an intricate murder case.

Ted Striker just got dumped by his long-time girlfriend Elaine Dickinson, who works as a stewardess at Trans American Airlines. In his wish to get her back, he follows her aboard the plane, although he has had a deep aversion against anything winged since he lost several men in the war. During flight, he tries to contact her again and again, but as the crew and many passengers get seriously ill due to a bad fish meal, he has no chance to get to her. In fact, Ted Striker seems to be the only healthy person aboard that has piloting experience. Now, it is up to him to get the bird down in Chicago safely, before the poisoning starts causing casualties. But Ted Striker's aversion really is a serious psychosis, which breaks open and needs to be cured - right now. |

This brilliant satirical comedy follows Peter Gibbons (Ron Livingston), an ordinary IT worker who is fed up with his mediocre life and his boring job at a software company plagued by excessive management. Stressed and burnt-out, Peter is forced by his soon-to-be ex-girlfriend Anne (Alexandra Wentworth) to visit an occupational hypnotherapist. Dr. Swanson (Mike McShane) puts Peter into a state of complete relaxation and unexpectedly kicks the bucket before he can snap him out of his hypnotic state. The half-hypnotized Peter begins to enjoy life for the first time in a very long time, blowing off his job and dating a sexy waitress named Joanna (Jennifer Aniston). But, curiously enough, instead of firing him, the company gives him a promotion. When he discovers that his best friends Michael Bolton (David Herman) and Samir Nagheenanajar (Ajay Naidu) are laid off instead, Peter induces them to exact revenge on the callous employer by planting a computer virus that will send fractions of pennies from the company's transactions into their own bank account. |

Set almost entirely in London, England during five frantic weeks before Christmas follows a web-like pattern of inter-related, loosely related and unrelated stories of a dozen or more various individuals with their love lives, or lack of them. The central character is the new bachelor prime minister David who cannot express his growing feelings for his new personal assistant Natalie. The prime minister's older sister Karen slowly grows aware of her husband Harry's flirtation with an office worker named Mia. Karen's friend Daniel is a recently widowed writer whose 11-year-old son asks for love advice about a girl he has a crush on. Meanwhile, Jamie is another writer who leaves his girlfriend after catching her cheating on him and travels to France to write a novel where he pursues a possible romance with his non-English speaking Portuguese maid Aurelia. Also, Harry's American secretary Sarah questions a romance she pursues with the office hunk Karl, but her personal family problems get in the way. Other secondary characters involve a photographer who pursues his best friend's new wife Juliet; a pair of movie stand-ins, named John and Judy, who grow closer after their simulated love scenes; a libidinous chum who wants to travel to Wisconsin, USA to score with women; and a burned-out former rock star named Billy Mack who is the main connection between all stories involved. |
