The mysterious and charismatic Russian-born Nikolai Luzhin is a driver for one of London's most notorious organized crime families of Eastern European origin. The family itself is part of the Vory V Zakone criminal brotherhood. Headed by Semyon, whose courtly charm as the welcoming proprietor of the plush Trans-Siberian restaurant impeccably masks a cold and brutal core, the family's fortunes are tested by Semyon's volatile son and enforcer, Kirill, who is more tightly bound to Nikolai than to his own father. But Nikolai's carefully maintained existence is jarred once he crosses paths at Christmastime with Anna Khitrova, a midwife at a North London hospital. Anna is deeply affected by the desperate situation of a young teenager who dies while giving birth to a baby. Anna resolves to try to trace the baby's lineage and relatives. The girl's personal diary also survives her; it is written in Russian, and Anna seeks answers in it. Anna's mother Helen does not discourage her, but Anna's irascible Russian-born uncle Stepan urges caution. He is right to do so; by delving into the diary, Anna has accidentally unleashed the full fury of the Vory. With Semyon and Kirill closing ranks and Anna pressing her inquiries, Nikolai unexpectedly finds his loyalties divided. The family tightens its grip on him; who can, or should, he trust? Several lives - including his own - hang in the balance as a harrowing chain of murder, deceit, and retribution reverberates through the darkest corners of both the family and London itself. |

A mentally challenged, middle-aged man named Chance (Peter Sellers) has spent all his life working as a gardener in the townhouse of a wealthy old man in Washington. When the owner dies, Chance is kicked out of the house. Knowing of the outside world only from maid Louise (Ruth Attaway) and television, he makes his first uncertain steps in the unfamiliar world and unexpectedly finds himself struck by a limousine owned by an influential and wealthy industrialist, Ben Rand (Melvyn Douglas). His wife Eve (Shirley MacLaine) invites Chance to their estate to convalesce and have dinner. Well-dressed and neat, the former gardener is mistaken for a man of means and his simple and serious utterances about gardening, which sound like metaphoric economic and political predictions, impress Ben so favorably that he decides to take Chance under his wing. Sam "Ace" Rothstein (Robert De Niro) is a gambling genius who is coronated by Mafia bosses to head the major "Tanjer" casino in Vegas. This film depicts the most interesting period in the Las Vegas history along with the dangerous relations "ace" had with Ginger, a prostite who is played by stunning beauty Sharon Stone. Violence and brutality are not given here as a crime: it seems to be only an unpleasant, but necessary part of the dirty and bloody gambling business. This movie is based on the real events and on the book by Nicholas Pileggi which encloses an adaptation of the real entries of judgement which was held in Cansas-City when the Las Vegas' mafia bosses was convicted there.

The film opens with a spectacular highway chase, as Rykker liquidates several syndicate agents. Saylon is a top syndicate leader who comes from outer space and crash-lands on Earth. His mission to build a wormhole link between Earth and the alien planet - a portal - making possible a full-scale invasion of the Earth. Isis is the sexy and ruthless leader of the syndicate on Earth. While launching a robbery spree to steal the spare parts necessary to build the portal, Isis becomes hell bent on destroying Rykker and clearing the way for Saylon's master plan. Julie is a fifteen year old who's family is murdered During the hijacking of a truck carrying material for the portal. Julie left totally alone in the world, Seeks vengeance on the killers. Rykker also seeks to find them. He must stop them before they complete the portal and flood the world with alien scum. Julie and Rykker are thrown together by tragic circumstance. They hook up - actually, she follows him against his will; he tries and tries to ditch her, but she keeps popping up, even saving his life at one point - and embark on a cross country journey, with Isis and an army of syndicate killers in hot pursuit. The final showdown, inside a nuclear reactor, is a balls to the wall action climax, as Rykker and Julie battle Isis, Saylon and their army of killers, and try to prevent the portal from opening a rein of destruction upon Earth. |

Safecracker Henri Charriere (Steve McQueen), also known as Papillon ("butterfly"), is wrongly convicted of murder and sentenced to life in a French penal colony on Devil's Island whose name speaks for itself. But they are captured and incarcerated in solitary confinement. Papillon makes numerous escape attempts which are foiled every moment either by an informant or by force majeure. Despite the consequent recapture and even more horrible conditions, Papillon tries not to lose heart and continues his attempts to gain freedom.

The action takes place in the USA in the 1930s. Grace (Nicole Kidman), a beatiful woman on the run from gangsters, arrives in the small Rocky Mountain town of Dogville. Town philosopher Tom Edison (Paul Bettany) takes her in and convinces the townsfolk to hide her. In exchange for shelter, Grace has to work for the townspeople all hours: she teaches math to the local kids, takes care of the blind old man, helps the apple farmer (Stellan Skarsgård) and the shopkeeper (Lauren Bacall). Eventually, the townspeople, egoistic and ruthless, begin demanding more and more from poor Grace. Tired of working double shifts, Grace decides to leave the town, but the escape fails, and she has to pass through a black ordeal. As a slave she is forced to toil from dawn to dusk, and raped by every man in Dogville night after night. Finally, Tom calls up Grace’s father (James Caan) to rescue his daughter from her inexorable torturers. |
