Eddie (Sean Penn) and Mickey (Kevin Spacey) are dandied middle-aged casting agents who share a house in the Hollywood Hills where their two buddies, sarcastic, sycophantic producer and writer Artie (Gary Shandling) and paranoiac, out-of-work actor Phil (Chazz Palminteri), are frequent visitors.
