Master detective Sherlock Holmes (Basil Rathbone) and his faithful assistant Dr. Watson (Nigel Bruce) travel to the backwoods town of La Mort Rouge, Canada to investigate a string of gruesome slayings. All the victims have been found with their throats slit. The locals believe in supernatural powers and attribute the murders to the legendary phantom monster that roams the marshes around the village.
