Have you heard it yet? It's a gossip, of course, but it's lethally dangerous. Three college students and fellow roommates, Derrick Webb (James Marsden), Cathy Jones (Lena Headey) and Travis (Norman Reedus), decide to do a journalism assignment on the effects of gossip. One day Cathy floats a rumour that beautiful Naomi Preston (Kate Hudson) who has a reputation for being chaste was crazy drunk and made love to Beau Edson (Joshua Jackson) at the nightclub. The rumour spreads like wildfire and takes a frightening turn. When the gossip reaches Naomi's ears, she thinks she was raped and lodges a statement with the police. As a result, Beau is being arrested. The fellows who started the rumour for fun feel guilty and try to explain that it was a practical joke but no one believes them.
